Al-Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, beautifully encapsulated the essence of reflective journaling in general with his profound words: "Verily, the people of understanding continue to alternate from remembrance to reflection, and reflection to remembrance, until their hearts awaken and speak with wisdom." In the sacred journey of Ramadan, reflective journaling serves as a powerful tool to foster a deep connection with Allah, allowing us to transition seamlessly between moments of remembrance and profound contemplation. As we engage in this cyclical practice, our hearts gradually awaken to the divine wisdom embedded within our souls, guiding us toward greater spiritual insight and enlightenment.

A beautiful sister of mine reminded me of how I used to keep everything in my head and didn't need to write them down, i.e. how I didn't see the need to journal or note stuff down, believing my head would take all down, and how beautiful growth is, for, I don't NOW only write down but even have a journal authored to show for it., and this made me smile and actually go into some reflection. What changed??? Yes, I grew... My head could no longer take everything down and remember (by the way, who was I fooling that I could take it all down in my head?). In this fast-paced life we live in, where we are being bombarded by information left, right and centre and getting constantly distracted like no tomorrow, the brain definitely has a limit to what it can pay attention to per time. Seven plus or minus, we are told by the communication expert. If I genuinely wanted to ingrain the habit and spirit of reflection, then I must assign time, space and a journal for it. Otherwise, the constant nature of our lives as adults with so much responsibility takes over, and the core of our growth is neglected. There is so much noise around. Everything and everywhere is noise and amusement; when do you create the space for conscious reflection, alternating it with remembrance?

And that is why I invite you to pick up the act of journaling this Ramadan if you haven't started doing so. Don't just journal, but journal reflectively. If you have been journalling before, then make this different. Through reflective journaling this Ramadan, we can embark on a transformative voyage of self-discovery, where every moment of remembrance and reflection brings us closer to the essence of Ramadan and the eternal wisdom of Allah. The Mindful Ramadan all-in-one Journal and planner has curated 30 days of reflective Ramadan journalling prompts designed to help you get a glimpse into the power of reflective journaling.
